One of the big five, Cape buffalo are considered to be one of the most dangerous animals in Africa. Even lions, their main enemy, are wary of their power and aggression when provoked.
Buffalo are unselective grazers, eating mainly grasses. They live in herds of a few hundred animals, although bulls may form bachelor groups of 2-6, and old bulls may be solitary.
